Cookie Policy
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store and then sends back on later visits.
This policy explains which cookies and similar storage technologies iLovePDF uses on https://ilovepdf4.com, what each one does, and how you can change your mind at any time. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy. The short version first: we run no analytics, we run no visitor tracking of our own, and advertising cookies stay switched off until you say otherwise.
How this site uses cookies
Every tool on iLovePDF runs inside your browser. The processing happens on your own device through JavaScript, WebAssembly and Canvas, and your files are uploaded only for the 44 office conversions, which delete the copy the moment they finish. That choice shapes this policy, because most of the cookie questions that apply to a normal file-conversion website simply do not arise here. There is no upload session to track for the 215 browser-based tools, no queue to remember and no lasting copy of your document, because the 44 office conversions delete the upload the moment they finish to associate with a cookie.
What remains is a small amount of storage for two purposes: keeping the site and its infrastructure safe, and funding the service through advertising. The table below lists everything we know to be set in connection with this site.
| Category | Status | Who sets it | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Always on | Cloudflare | Security cookies that protect the site and every visitor from bots, abuse and malicious traffic. Without them we cannot serve the pages reliably. |
| Advertising | Off until you agree | Google AdSense, publisher pub-8928122502589555, and Google’s advertising partners |
Cookies such as __gads and __gpi are used to serve ads, measure how they perform, limit how often you see the same ad, and personalise advertising based on earlier visits to this site and other websites. Nothing in this category is written to your device until you choose to allow it. |
| Analytics | None set at all | Nobody | We have no analytics product installed on this site. No traffic measurement cookie, no heat-map script, no session recorder, no Google Analytics. |
| Preferences | Stored locally, not a cookie | This site (your own browser storage) | Your cookie choice is saved in your browser’s localStorage under the key z11_consent_v1 so the banner does not ask you again on every page. |
Cookies and localStorage are not the same thing
The difference matters for how your choice is kept. Cookies are attached to network requests, which means a cookie set for our domain can be read by our site, and a cookie set by an advertising or security provider can be read by that provider. Local storage does not travel. It is a key-and-value store that belongs to the browser, and the value stays on the device until a script on the same origin reads or removes it.
We keep the consent record in localStorage under z11_consent_v1 for a simple reason: that value never has to leave your device. It records whether you allowed advertising cookies, the version of the banner you answered, and when you answered it. Since it is not a cookie, it is not transmitted to Cloudflare, to Google or to anybody else with a page request. You can read it, and delete it, yourself at any time.
Changing or withdrawing your consent
Your decision is not permanent. To change it, click the “Cookie settings” button on this site and pick again. Advertising cookies are deleted or blocked from that point on, and the updated choice is written back to the same localStorage key. Withdrawal takes effect for future page loads, so reload the page after changing your selection.
You have other controls as well, and they work at the browser level:
- Open your browser’s settings and look for the privacy or cookies section. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge and Opera all let you block third-party cookies, clear stored cookies, or delete site data for a single domain.
- Clear site data for ilovepdf4.com to remove the saved consent record. The banner will appear again on your next visit, because the site no longer knows what you chose.
- Google’s ad settings at adssettings.google.com let you turn off personalised advertising on Google services and review the interests associated with your browser.
- The Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out page at aboutads.info/choices covers many participating advertisers in the United States.
- If you are in Europe, youronlinechoices.com lets you manage preferences with the vendors taking part in that framework.
One practical detail. The opt-out tools above usually work by placing an opt-out cookie in your browser, so clearing cookies removes the opt-out with them and you may need to set it again. Our consent record behaves differently, because it lives in localStorage. Clearing cookies alone will not erase it.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Some browsers can send a Do Not Track header with every request. There was never an agreed standard for how a site should respond, and support was uneven enough that browser makers largely abandoned the signal. We cannot act on it in a uniform way through our own code, but the outcome it aims at is already the default here: advertising cookies are denied until you actively consent, so a visitor who never touches the banner never receives one.
Global Privacy Control is a newer and better-specified signal, and browser extensions and some browsers send it as a matter of policy. Where we can read it, we treat it as a request not to sell or share personal information, and the same result follows: no advertising cookies are set. You can also press the “Cookie settings” button and decline directly. That button is our “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” control, and it works whether or not your browser supports any signal.
How long cookies last
Session cookies disappear when you close the browser. Persistent cookies stay for a fixed period written into the cookie itself, and the provider decides that period. Cloudflare’s security cookies are mostly short-lived, from a browser session up to roughly a year for the ones that remember a trusted visitor, and our site does not override those defaults. Advertising cookies set through Google can last from a single session to about thirteen months, depending on the cookie and the purpose. Some are limited to a few hours for frequency capping. The consent record in localStorage has no expiry date at all. It stays until you change your choice or clear your browser data.
Because advertising cookies never appear before consent, you can also judge the whole category for yourself: open your browser’s cookie viewer with the banner untouched, and you will not find __gads or __gpi there.
